Read 2 Chronicles 19 in the Bible

2 Chronicles 19:1-2

  • Jehu was the son of Hanani, the prophet who had criticized Asa for relying on the Arameans (2 Chronicles 16:7–9). Jehu now scolded Jehoshaphat for his alliance with Ahab.

  • The word love represents faithfulness to a covenant. Jehoshaphat’s covenant with the wicked Ahab conflicted with his covenant with the Lord.

2 Chronicles 19:4-11

In Jehoshaphat’s judicial reform, he appointed judges in the fortified towns (2 Chronicles 19:5) and a central court in Jerusalem (19:8). He urged all judges to think carefully and to judge with integrity and respect for the Lord. This meant they could not show favoritism or accept bribes, and they had to warn criminals not to sin against the Lord. The reform reinstated the law of Deuteronomy (Deuteronomy 16:18–17:13).
